The EcoDistricts Summit is a forum designed to complement the Portland Sustainability Institute's work on EcoDistricts and to catalyze the conversation on sustainable development at the district scale.
The EcoDistricts Summit will also serve to enhance existing dialogue on integrated performance assessment; neighborhood leadership; green building, infrastructure, and behavior practices to reduce resource consumption; new sources and structures for project finance; and green neighborhood ratings.
How we live in cities is one of the great challenges of our time.
The Portland Sustainability Institute is an independent and innovative nonprofit that brings together business and sustainability leaders to incubate partnerships, drive innovation and solve tough problems on a truly metropolitan scale, here and in cities around the world. Through scalable—and replicable—pilot projects, we help transform research into action, promote smart policy and drive targeted investment in new technologies and practices, strengthening our economy and quality of life.
We're here to help cities create the solutions they urgently need.
EcoDistricts are the right scale to accelerate sustainability - small enough to innovate quickly and big enough to have a meaningful impact.
While cities are experimenting with green neighborhood development, there are no universal criteria for EcoDistricts. The Portland Sustainability Institute has standardized an approach for EcoDistricts to innovate, evaluate outcomes, and share results with other communities. We have partnered with the City of Portland to launch five pilot neighborhoods, Lents, Gateway, University District, South Waterfront and Lloyd District. PoSI is also working with leading cities engaged in similar efforts.
